Gorgeous Open Cup Pour ~ Fluid Painting Tutorial

This is a Fest of Cells in the acrylic pouring world! The open cup technique is a truly unique way of achieving the most gorgeous cells and effects. And in this video, I’m gonna show you how to do a double traveling open cup pour on a color split base. For my color split, I’m gonna work on beautiful turquoise and blue, as well as white colors. And for the flow, for the open cup, I got some bright colors.

So for the traveling open cup, I’m gonna be using a cookie cutter. I always use cookie cutters. The reason I’m using a cookie cutter instead of cutting a paper cup or plastic cup is that first of all this stuff is reusable.

Acrylic Pouring RECIPE used for today’s flow art painting:

Acrylic paint is mixed with water only to a fluid consistency. I add approximately 30-50% of water to my colors. There is no exact % or proportion because this ratio depends on initial paint viscosity, which significantly varies from brand to brand and even from color to color.

I just wipe it or clean it after use and it’s good to go again. And also I like that it’s actually quite heavy. It’s much heavier compared to a paper cup or plastic cup, so it doesn’t normally begin to flow until I put paint all the way to the rim and actually travel it myself. And I find that it gives me more control over the composition. And I like that.

So, I’m actually gonna use two cups instead of one. One smaller, one for the top, and a bigger one for the bottom part. For the colors and my bottom flow, I’m gonna add some turquoise to balance out the top. And in the top flow, I’m gonna add some of this greenish-blue color to balance out the bottom. So they sort of echo each other.

This is quite a carnival of cells and colors that’s happening in this section. You know, for me this painting is very cheerful. All these colors are so bright, juicy, energetic. I’m getting the coral reef white, but at the same time, some parts look like a beautiful gemstone.

Gemstones underwater…

The contrast in this painting is just breathtaking, and when I look at it I get lost in the world of color! If you’d like to achieve a lot of joyful movement in composition and easy cells without silicone, then the open cup technique is a must-try!

I hope you enjoyed the end result😊 Stay tuned for more 😉 Happy creating!
