Acrylic Pouring Tutorial by Olga Soby

Acrylic Pouring Technique For Beginners | Fluid Art Ideas

Let’s create an Ocean Wave Swipe – Mixed Media Abstract Art Tutorial. I and Molly from Molly’s Artistry keep experimenting with acrylic pouring techniques. We keep learning from each other, teaching each other tips and tricks, and we’re up for a new painting challenge. We have a wheel with all kinds of fluid art techniques, and Molly will spin the wheel and pick a technique for me.

And I got the wave swipe technique. That would be an interesting and exciting abstract art experiment! I’ll use a 16×20 inches canvas. My secret message for this pour painting is “Florida Joy”. For the wave swipe, I’ve got some spatulas. And for my sky part, I want to try something new.

Acrylic Pouring RECIPE used for today’s flow art painting:

Acrylic paint is mixed with water only to a fluid consistency. I add approximately 30-50% of water to my colors. There is no exact % or proportion because this ratio depends on initial paint viscosity, which significantly varies from brand to brand and even from color to color.

I want to create sort of like a cloudy effect, not just solid color. And for that, I’m going to use white and a couple of softer blues, sky blue, and a little bit of pink for some sunrise color. Also, I have some extra color for this abstract wave painting, I have to add silver to this color palette. I hardly ever use silver so it will be a little challenging for me. I love gold, so I want to use a little bit of gold here. But I want to use it just sort of in one corner for a little bit of sunshine. Let’s see how this abstract sea painting turns out. And without further ado let’s get started.

I have to say I absolutely love how this wave painting turned out. First of all, I’m in love with the way my sky turned out. It was definitely a good idea to add the gold and to create beautiful sunshine in the sky, and all the movements definitely worked amazing. Also once the acrylic paint was dry, I did a few minor touch-ups on my wave. I added some gold just on the surface as a reflection of that sunlight in my waves. And I think this way, this sea-inspired pour painting is definitely a lot more cohesive and you can see how beautiful it shines. I hope you enjoyed the process and looking forward to hearing from you! Happy creating!
